Can I join if I am not a student?

Of course! Anyone aged 16 and above is welcome, both students and non students, whatever your experience level. We accommodate everyone from complete beginners to advanced so there is no reason not to give us a try! Please check our membership page for more information on purchasing membership.

Do I need a gym membership to join EUKBC?

Yes, in order to become a member with us you will also need to purchase a membership at the University's CSE gym. Please make sure you have purchased and activated your CSE gym membership before buying an EUKBC membership. Prices and information about membership can be found here.

Trainings & Competitions

Do I need to pay for training if I am a member?

No, the cost of all general and sparring training sessions are included in the price of your membership.

How fit do I need to be?

The classes are structured so that you can train as hard as you like. A reasonable level of fitness is helpful for kickboxing, however, your fitness will improve as you train so come along and try it out!

What can I expect from the training sessions?

Both the general fitness and sparring classes will begin with a brief warm up designed to prepare you for the session. The general fitness class mostly involves pad work which allows you to become familiar with a range of kickboxing moves. You will learn a number of different punching and kicking techniques as well as several defensive moves. The sparring sessions are designed for the slightly more experienced members although it is also a great way to simply build up your general fitness. Here students can develop their kickboxing skills through light contact fighting. Whilst we encourage every student to push their boundaries, you do not have to do anything you do not feel comfortable with or do not want to do. For more information please visit our Training page.

Will I get punched in the face?

No, our general fitness sessions are non-contact. If you want to take it to the next level we do have a sparring class which will introduce you to the competitive side of the sport in a safe and controlled way.

When and where do you train?

Normal classes run during each semester. For up-to-date details of our session please check the training page. We often run extra training session during exams/holidays. Please check the Facebook page for details of these.

Can I participate in competitions?

Yes! If you've been training at our sparring class and our coach deems you ready to fight then you will be able to fight in competitions. We have several intra-club competitions through out the year and our team competes across the UK. For more information view the ​Competitions page​​.

I missed out on a couple of training sessions, what have I missed?

Do I need to have my own equipment?

For general fitness sessions, gloves and training pads are provided, if you need any additional equipments you will have to purchase them, e.g. hand wraps, groin guards, etc. For sparring sessions, you are required to have your own mouth guard and all other standard equipments (gloves, shin guard, foot guard, headguard) are provided, this can be purchased from EUKBC.

What should I wear to trainings?

Just dress as you would for the gym or a fitness class. Most of our members will wear shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. We train barefoot so there is no need to worry about specific footwear. Comfort is key!
